Spurs eye future stability with Selma Panengstuen’s WSL arrival

🇬🇧

Tottenham Hotspur have secured the services of 23‑year‑old Norwegian goalkeeper Selma Panengstuen from SK Brann, finalising the move after her standout season in which she kept eight clean sheets in eleven league games and featured in a 1‑0 Champions League win over Manchester United.

Panengstuen’s rise through Norway’s leagues, from two seasons at Raufoss IL in the Norwegian First Division to a Toppserien debut with Stabæk at 18, showcases her rapid development. Her award‑winning 2023 season at Kolbotn, where she became the first goalkeeper to claim the First Division Player of the Year award and helped secure promotion, underlines her impact.

At SK Brann, she started all 27 league matches, recording 18 clean sheets and contributing to the club’s second league title. She also began the current campaign with eight clean sheets in eleven games and earned a place in TV 2’s Toppserien Team of the Year.

Panengstuen made her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut by keeping Manchester United to a 1‑0 defeat at home in the third‑qualifying round. Her composure against a high‑profile opponent highlighted her readiness for top‑level competition.

She said, “I really believe in Tottenham Hotspur… this is a very exciting club and a project that is going upwards,” expressing enthusiasm for the move. Panengstuen added that friends have spoken highly of Spurs and she looks forward to training, playing games and meeting the fans.

Spurs head coach Martin Ho praised her, noting, “Selma is a goalkeeper with outstanding potential, but also someone who already has a very strong foundation to her game.” He highlighted her shot‑stopping, courage, communication, athleticism and comfort with the ball as qualities the club values highly.

Ho emphasized her attitude, commitment and dedication, calling her work ethic “among the best I have seen.” He said the club will provide the support and challenge needed to maximise her high ceiling.

For Tottenham, Panengstuen adds a proven shot‑stopper with a record of clean sheets and a mindset geared toward continual improvement. For the Norwegian international, the move offers a platform in the WSL to develop under a coach who knows her character and to compete at the highest club level.
