Real Madrid's defensive overhaul hinges on Inter's Bastoni

🇪🇸

At the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid officials have earmarked Inter Milan centre‑back Alessandro Bastoni as their next defensive acquisition. The club, still reeling from two consecutive seasons without trophies, sees the 27‑year‑old Italian as a priority target despite no formal approach having been made.

Florentino Pérez has publicly declared that the club must return to being the best in the world. Jose Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid formed the basis of a new blueprint, prompting a spending spree in defence. This summer the club has already secured left‑back Marc Cucurella, centre‑back Ibrahima Konaté and right‑back Denzel Dumfries.

Alessandro Bastoni is now the priority target for Real Madrid. Mourinho admires Bastoni’s profile, calling him an ideal fit for his system because of his defensive skill and comfort with the ball. A photograph by Lars Baron illustrates Bastoni’s composure on the pitch.

So far no formal approach or offer has been made, and there have been no contacts between Inter Milan and Real Madrid regarding the transfer. Inter Milan would prefer to retain the defender, yet they acknowledge his complicated relationship with their supporters. A picture by Carl Recine shows the uncertainty surrounding the potential deal.

The 27‑year‑old made 28 league starts for Inter Milan last season, contributing eight clean sheets. He averaged more than ten defensive actions, close to one key pass per game, and a fee of around €70 million is deemed sufficient. The priority status was relayed earlier this week by club insiders.
