\n\nThe Premier League club confirmed the move in an official statement on Monday morning, describing Tonali as “a tenacious, creative and energetic figure across the midfield.” Spurs beat competition from other clubs to secure the midfielder’s services after agreeing a deal with Newcastle.
\n\nTonali, 26, becomes the most expensive Italian footballer ever, surpassing Mateo Retegui, whose €68 million move from Atalanta to Al Qadsiah was completed a year ago. The midfielder arrives at Tottenham with 110 appearances for Newcastle, where he scored ten goals and provided ten assists across all competitions.
\n\nA former Milan and Brescia star, Tonali won the Serie A title with AC Milan in 2021-22 and lifted the Carabao Cup during his three-year spell at Newcastle. He has made 32 senior appearances for Italy, scoring four goals since his debut in October 2019.
\n\nTottenham’s statement highlighted his consistency in the Premier League, where he established himself as one of the division’s most reliable performers. The club also noted his development from a Brescia youngster to a Champions League semi-finalist with Milan.
\n\nTonali began his career with Lombard clubs Lombardia Uno and Piacenza before joining Brescia in 2012. He made his professional debut for the Serie B side in August 2017 and was named Player of the Season in consecutive campaigns, helping Brescia win promotion to Serie A in 2018-19.
\n\nAfter impressing at Brescia, he joined AC Milan on loan in September 2020, becoming a key figure as the Rossoneri claimed the 2021-22 Scudetto. His permanent move to Milan followed, and he featured in all but two league games that season, also making six Champions League group-stage appearances.
\n\nNewcastle confirmed the transfer through their official website, stating the undisclosed fee was the second-largest in the club’s history. The Magpies thanked Tonali for his contributions, including his role in their Carabao Cup triumph in March 2025 and 11 Champions League appearances last season.
\n\nTottenham’s statement concluded: “Welcome, Sandro!”",
