Inter secures veteran Mkhitaryan as squad reshapes for 2027

🇮🇹

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has signed a new deal with FC Internazionale Milano, extending his stay until the end of the 2026‑27 season. The 37‑year‑old will earn a base salary of about €2 million, down from €3.8 million on his previous contract that expired on June 30.

During the 2025‑26 campaign Mkhitaryan featured in 39 matches across all competitions, adding four goals and three assists from midfield. His experience arrives as Inter confirmed the exits of senior players Yann Sommer, Stefan De Vrij, Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian, all of whom left on June 30.

Reports indicate the new contract reduces his base wage to roughly €2 million for the upcoming season at San Siro, a significant cut from the €3.8 million he earned previously. The financial adjustment reflects Inter’s broader wage management as the club reshapes its roster.

Mkhitaryan will continue to operate alongside Nicolo Barella, Petar Sucic, Piotr Zielinski and Andy Diouf in a midfield that blends creativity with work rate. The veteran’s presence provides tactical flexibility as the squad prepares for the next campaign.

Meanwhile, Davide Frattesi and Aleksandar Stankovic remain on Inter’s books but are reported to be potential exits in the upcoming summer transfer window. Their possible departures underscore the club’s intent to refresh the squad while retaining core experience.

In the UEFA Champions League 2025/26, Mkhitaryan was pressed by Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister during a group‑stage match on 9 December 2025, highlighting his continued involvement at the highest level. The extension secures a seasoned midfielder for Inter while offering Mkhitaryan a reduced yet stable role as he approaches the twilight of his career.
