Germany's coaching turmoil: Klopp emerges as DFB's favourite
In the wake of Germany's penalty shootout exit to Paraguay at the World Cup in the United States, the DFB faces a looming managerial change as Julian Nagelsmann, whose contract runs to 2028, is reportedly on the brink of dismissal with a potential €7 million payout.
Jürgen Klopp, who left Liverpool at the close of the 2023/2024 season, has been working as a luxury consultant this summer and says he is prepared to take charge of the German national side if the DFB approaches him.
The German Football Association also keeps former Bayern Munich coach Ralf Rangnick and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on its shortlist, although Klopp is described as the frontrunner.
Julian Nagelsmann, appointed in 2023, has struggled to imprint his tactical philosophy, with German outlet reporting that his choices were poorly understood and the squad appeared divided.

At Euro 2024, Nagelsmann’s Germany reached the quarter‑finals but were edged out by Spain in a narrow defeat, adding to the mounting pressure on his tenure. The World Cup campaign in the United States ended in the round of 16, where Germany fell to Paraguay after a penalty shootout, marking the third premature World Cup exit after 2018 and 2022.Klopp tops Germany coaching race while Senegal's squad reels
The DFB now faces the task of rebuilding the national team from the ground up, a rare situation for a nation that has won the tournament four times. A potential clash with France in the round of 16 was avoided by the penalty defeat, underscoring the narrow margin that could have reshaped the knockout path.
