Ajax targets Irish teenager Michael Noonan from Shamrock Rovers
Ajax is in advanced talks with Shamrock Rovers over the transfer of 17-year-old striker Michael Noonan.
The teenager has already made 32 senior appearances for the League of Ireland champions, per The 42. Noonan’s breakthrough season includes eight league goals in 22 matches this term.
Ajax sporting director Sven Mislintat has prioritized Noonan as part of a rebuild under new manager John Heitinga. The club views the Irish forward as a long-term replacement for Sébastien Haller.
Shamrock Rovers sporting director Ger O’Brien confirmed discussions are ongoing but no agreement has been finalized. The Dublin side is open to selling but will not accept a cut-price offer.
Noonan can join Ajax on a pre-contract at 18 in January, with a transfer fee expected to exceed €1 million. Shamrock Rovers will demand compensation if the deal triggers before his birthday.
Heitinga’s side hosts FC Volendam on Saturday, with Noonan ineligible until any deal is formally completed.
