Courtney Brosnan says Dutch win fuels Ireland's France hopes

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan said their 3-2 victory over the Netherlands shows they can perform against big nations. The win comes ahead of a winner‑takes‑all match against France in the final group game.

Coach Carla Ward's side are targeting a second successive Women's World Cup. They have already secured a seeded play‑off place for next year's tournament in Brazil. Ward said that competing in League A pits Ireland against the highest‑ranked teams.

Brosnan spent early career spells with Ambilly and Le Harve in France, which she says helped her develop on and off the pitch. She is now Everton's first‑choice goalkeeper in the WSL. Brosnan saved Caroline Weir's penalty when Ireland beat Scotland 1‑0 in a 2022 play‑off that qualified them for the 2023 World Cup.

A victory over France in Grenoble would lift Ireland to the top of Group A2 and grant automatic qualification. Brosnan expressed belief that the squad's momentum and experience will aid them against Les Bleues.
