€135 million fee crowns Elliot Anderson as England’s costliest export
Manchester City have agreed a €135 million fee to sign 23‑year‑old midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with the English international currently featuring for England at the World Cup in the United States. The deal, announced today, marks a major summer acquisition for the Premier League champions.
Anderson, 23, is a starter for England at the tournament. He enjoyed an excellent season last term with Nottingham Forest. Manchester City have been negotiating throughout the summer to secure his signature.
The club confirmed an agreement with Nottingham Forest. In a statement the Citizens said: "In the meantime everyone at Manchester City wishes Anderson success for the rest of the World Cup in the United States. We cannot wait to welcome him in Manchester."
Manchester City splashes €134m on Anderson to reshape midfield
British media have reported the figure at around €135 million. The fee would make Anderson the most expensive English player ever. It would surpass Jack Grealish’s previous record as the costliest English transfer. Anderson is regarded as a genuine linking midfielder. He will face stiff competition for a midfield berth at City. Current options include former Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders, Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Philips. When Anderson returns to England after the World Cup, the final formalities will be completed. The tournament is being staged in the United States.
