Valencia eye 34‑year‑old Thomas Meunier as right‑back solution
Thirty‑four‑year‑old Thomas Meunier, who left Lille on 1 July after his contract expired, has reached a full agreement with Valencia to join the Spanish side. The veteran right‑back will become the club’s first‑choice option on the right flank once paperwork is completed.
According to the Spanish newspaper Diario AS, both Meunier and Valencia have agreed on all terms of the deal. The transfer has not yet been officially announced, pending the final formalities required for registration.
Valencia’s need for reinforcement is acute after the departure of Thierry Correia and the ongoing injury to Dimitri Foulquier. The club expects Meunier’s experience to provide immediate stability and depth on the right side of defence.
At 34, Meunier edges closer to La Liga switch after World Cup heroics
Meunier is currently representing Belgium at the World Cup, where he entered the match against Senegal from the bench. He supplied the assist for Romelu Lukaku’s goal, demonstrating his continued impact at 34. Belgium’s victory over Senegal secured a place in the round of 16. Their next fixture on Monday is against the United States, a side they previously defeated 2‑5 in a March friendly in Atlanta. Meunier will concentrate on the United States game before finalising his move. Once the remaining details are settled, Valencia will become his next club, adding a seasoned defender to their La Liga roster.
