Liverpool and Juventus dedicate Heysel memorial 41 years on

🇬🇧 30 May 2026

Forty-one years after the Heysel Stadium disaster, Liverpool FC and Juventus FC unveiled a memorial plaque at the former stadium in Brussels.

The ceremony took place on May 29, the exact date of the 1985 tragedy where 39 football fans lost their lives before the European Cup final.

Liverpool’s managing director Andy Hunt and Juventus director of social responsibility Paolo Garimberti attended the memorial event.

A wreath was laid at the site, with both clubs observing a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

The memorial plaque features the names of all 39 victims and a joint message from both clubs.

Liverpool FC and Juventus FC confirmed the installation of the permanent tribute in a joint statement.
