Lincoln City shore up defence with experienced left‑back Callum Elder

🇬🇧

Lincoln City have secured 31‑year‑old Australia international left‑back Callum Elder on a two‑year contract, marking their first signing since clinching promotion to the Championship. The defender brings a wealth of experience after featuring 28 times for Derby County in their recent promotion campaign.

Elder arrived on a free transfer after his contract with Derby County expired. He helped the Rams regain second‑tier status in 2024 and made 28 league appearances for them last season.

His Championship résumé also includes spells with Brentford, Barnsley, Ipswich Town and Hull City. These stints have equipped him with extensive knowledge of English second‑division football.

Elder began his professional career at Leicester City. He later featured for Mansfield Town, Peterborough United and Wigan Athletic, adding further depth to his playing history.

Elder said, "I had some really good conversations with [Lincoln head coaches] Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw." He added, "For them to believe I am someone who can help take the club forward is really exciting for me. I can't wait to give everything I have to help achieve that."

Lincoln chiefs expected criticism for Cohen and Shaw. The signing of Elder is intended to reinforce the Imps' defensive options as they prepare for the challenges of the Championship.
