Huddersfield chase tactical edge with Dutch right-back Ilias Bronkhorst

🇬🇧

Huddersfield Town have signed Dutch right-back Ilias Bronkhorst on a two‑year deal to add athletic depth to their full‑back line, after the 29‑year‑old logged 33 Eredivisie appearances last season, missing only one match. He joins the Championship side as a free agent after being released by Excelsior in the summer.

The 29‑year‑old signs a two‑year contract with Huddersfield as a free agent. He was released by Excelsior of the Eredivisie, a club he joined in August 2024.

Bronkhorst previously spent two seasons in the Dutch top flight with NEC Nijmegen. Last season he featured in 33 league matches, missing only a single game.

"He's athletic and has physical capabilities that align with how we want to play," head coach Martin Drury said on the club website. Drury added that the Dutch league demands technical skill, and Bronkhorst's contributions to set pieces on both ends were impressive.

The signing gives Huddersfield a right‑back familiar with the technical demands of the Eredivisie. Drury expects the newcomer to bolster the team's defensive solidity and add attacking options from dead‑ball situations.

At 29, Bronkhorst brings a blend of experience and physicality to the squad. His track record of near‑ever‑present status demonstrates durability that aligns with Huddersfield's desire for consistency.

As a free agent, he arrives without a transfer fee, offering financial flexibility. The two‑year deal suggests the club views him as a medium‑term solution for the right‑back role.
