Chelsea chase La Liga’s rising left-back Pep Chavarria
Chelsea have identified Pep Chavarria as a target for this summer, the 28‑year‑old left‑back of Rayo Vallecano who logged 44 appearances, scored once and supplied three assists across all competitions last season, and remains under contract until the summer of 2030.
His rise in Spanish football has placed him among La Liga’s most promising full‑backs. This reputation has prompted Chelsea to pursue a player capable of strengthening their defensive line.
Chavarria is noted for his tackling ability and timing of challenges, often winning the ball back inside his own half. At 1.74 m he is less dominant aerially but compensates with driving runs and accurate left‑flank crosses.
The Spaniard also contributes offensively, capable of scoring and creating occasional goals for his side. His statistical output of one goal and three assists last campaign reflects this dual threat.
Chelsea must navigate his long‑term contract, which does not expire until 2030, potentially complicating an immediate transfer this window. Such a contract length may require a sizable fee to secure his services before the summer.
A photograph captured Chavarria reacting during a LaLiga EA Sports match between Real Madrid CF and Rayo Vallecano de Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on 1 February 2026, taken by Angel Martinez. The image underscores his visibility on a high‑profile stage.
If the deal materialises, Chelsea expect Chavarria to add quality and depth to Xabi Alonso’s defensive department. He is projected to compete for a regular starting role at Stamford Bridge next season.
Alonso will need to grant the newcomer time to adapt to the Premier League’s physical intensity before extracting his full potential. The adjustment period will be crucial for the Spaniard’s success in England.
