Liverpool target Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen as Alisson successor

🇳🇱 8 June 2026

Liverpool have identified Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as the preferred long‑term replacement for Alisson Becker. The Reds and Manchester United are both monitoring his development, while other European clubs keep tabs ahead of the transfer window. Liverpool, the Premier League champions, have also repelled interest from Juventus in Alisson Becker.

Verbruggen is a 23‑year‑old Dutch international, 1.93 m tall, who joined Brighton from Anderlecht in July 2023 on a five‑year contract. He is under contract until June 2028 and earns roughly £35,000 per week. Former Brighton coach Vincent Kompany highlighted Verbruggen’s proactive style, comfort with building from the back and calm under pressure.

Alisson Becker’s deal was extended by one year after Richard Hughes triggered the clause, leaving his contract to run until 2027. Frequent injury problems have opened the door for a £24 million signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili, but the 25‑year‑old Georgian is currently failing his audition.

Aston Villa have placed Verbruggen at the top of their list should Emi Martinez leave after the FIFA World Cup. Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the keeper, with Verbruggen describing such interest as a compliment while remaining focused on Brighton and the Netherlands.
