Liverpool risk losing 16‑year‑old Aboubacar Maiga to PSG

🇬🇧

Richard Hughes is warned that Liverpool could lose teenage sensation Aboubacar Maiga to Paris Saint‑Germain. The 16‑year‑old Malian midfielder is currently on the radar of several Premier League clubs, but PSG appears to be ahead.

Liverpool have recently promoted Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni to the first‑team squad. Ngumoha earned his senior international debut this week, while Mor Talla Ndiaye joined in January with hopes of a senior breakthrough.

Academie Africa Foot in Bamako list Aboubacar Maiga as an attacking midfielder who also features for the Mali U17s. His displays at recent WAFU/UFOA‑A U17 tournaments have drawn praise for his ball‑carrying and final‑third impact.

Besides Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United have all explored the possibility of signing Maiga. The report notes that scouts from Liverpool and Manchester United have monitored his progress for more than a year.

“Paris Saint‑Germain have emerged as the frontrunners to sign highly‑rated Malian wonderkid Aboubacar Maiga, despite long‑standing interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona,” the report reads.

Liverpool’s newly appointed head coach Andoni Iraola and Manchester United’s Michael Carrick have each held internal discussions about a potential move. The French champions have accelerated their assessment, with Maiga currently spending time in France.

Liverpool will need to present a convincing case to Maiga and his representatives to prevent the teenager from joining PSG. The outcome could shape the club’s strategy for sourcing West African talent in the coming years.
