Barcelona’s record exits: Neymar, Arthur and Figo reshape the market

Barcelona’s most lucrative departures include Neymar’s 2017 move to Paris Saint‑Germain for €222 million, Arthur Melo’s 2020 switch to Juventus for roughly €72 million plus add‑ons, and Luis Figo’s 2000 transfer to Real Madrid for €62 million. These three sales generated the club’s biggest incoming fees to date.

Paris Saint‑Germain triggered Neymar’s €222 million release clause in the summer of 2017, setting a new world‑record transfer fee. The deal remains the benchmark for subsequent high‑value moves across Europe.

During his four‑year spell, Neymar made 186 appearances for Barcelona and scored 105 goals. He formed the famed MSN attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez under manager Luis Enrique.

Barcelona completed Arthur Melo’s transfer to Juventus in 2020 for an estimated €72 million, with potential add‑ons of €10 million. The midfielder had featured in 72 matches for Barcelona, providing four goals and six assists.

Arthur arrived at Camp Nou from Gremio in 2018, hailed for his ability to sustain Barcelona’s possession‑based style. After two seasons, the club decided to part ways, marking his move as the second‑biggest outgoing fee.

In 2000, Real Madrid paid €62 million to secure Luis Figo’s transfer from Barcelona, making him the world’s most expensive player at the time. Figo left after 249 matches and 45 goals, having won two La Liga titles with the Catalan side.
