Wout Faes faces uncertain summer after Monaco ends loan

🇧🇪

After 16 appearances for AS Monaco, Belgian centre-back Wout Faes will return to Leicester City as his loan, which began in January, expires without a purchase option being exercised, leaving the defender facing an uncertain summer and no permanent deal in place.

AS Monaco confirmed the termination of Faes' loan, stating that the purchase clause will not be triggered. The Belgian defender had joined the French club on a season‑long loan from Leicester City in January.

Monaco announced the decision on its official social channels. The club wrote: "Na 16 wedstrijden in het rood-wit verlaat Wout Faes AS Monaco na afloop van zijn huurperiode, die afgelopen januari begon".

During his spell, Faes featured in 16 competitive matches, starting 13 of them and making one appearance off the bench. His playing time was limited compared with expectations for a regular starter.

Monaco thanked Faes for his professionalism and wished him success in his future career. The club highlighted his investment and dedication while he was on the Rocher.

Upon the loan's conclusion, Faes returns to Leicester City, where he remains under contract until the following summer. Leicester could either negotiate a permanent transfer or extend his contract, both options remaining on the table.

The defender's summer is described as uncertain, especially after missing selection for the World Cup squad. His lack of international call‑up adds pressure to secure regular club minutes.

Leicester have not yet disclosed their plans for Faes, and it is unclear whether he will regain a central role. Other clubs may monitor his situation as the transfer window approaches.
