Sunderland chase Bogarde: Black Cats target versatile Dutch midfielder

🇬🇧

Sunderland are reportedly in contention to sign 22‑year‑old Dutch midfielder Lamare Bogarde from Aston Villa, with Brighton & Hove Albion also named as rivals for his signature before his contract expires in 2028. The move could see the Black Cats add a versatile player to their squad this summer.

The interest was highlighted by journalist Joost Blaauwhof in a recent post on X, where he confirmed Sunderland’s involvement in the chase for Bogarde. Blaauwhof also noted that Brighton & Hove Albion are among the clubs competing for the Dutch midfielder.

Bogarde featured in 44 matches for Aston Villa across all competitions last season, establishing himself as a useful squad player in midfield. His reputation as one of the Premier League’s most versatile midfielders has attracted interest from clubs seeking depth.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Bogarde is also capable of operating as a centre‑back or right‑back when required. His tough‑tackling approach and ability to win possession inside his own half make him a valuable defensive asset.

Sunderland’s pursuit is contested by Brighton & Hove Albion, adding a competitive edge to the transfer race. Bogarde’s contract with Aston Villa runs until the summer of 2028, which could limit Sunderland’s ability to acquire him at a reduced fee.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris is expected to integrate Bogarde into a midfield that needs more bite and steel. The Dutchman’s familiarity with the Premier League should ease his adaptation to life at the Stadium of Light.

For Sunderland, securing Bogarde would provide a versatile defensive option and potentially raise the squad’s overall resilience. For Bogarde, a move to Sunderland offers a clearer path to regular first‑team football and the chance to develop into a future star in English football.
