Lazio’s Dominguez deal to give Barça a €2m boost
FC Barcelona are set to receive a €2 million windfall from the impending transfer of former La Masia defender Sergi Dominguez to Serie A club Lazio. The 21-year-old centre-back has reached a comprehensive agreement with Lazio to sign a five-year contract running until June 2031.
The move follows Lazio’s ongoing negotiations with Dinamo Zagreb for a total package valued around €10 million. Barcelona retain a crucial 20% future sell-on clause from Dominguez’s original departure, which triggered the potential return.
Dominguez progressed through Barcelona’s La Masia youth system and made five senior appearances under head coach Hansi Flick. He later joined Dinamo Zagreb in June 2025 for a €1.2 million fee, with sporting director Deco retaining a percentage of any future capital gains.
Quiet exit: Adam Qaroual leaves Barcelona’s La Masia after three years
His debut season in Croatia saw him emerge as one of the league’s top breakout starlets, anchoring Dinamo Zagreb’s backline in domestic and European competitions. Lazio’s scouting department identified him as a long-term replacement for Mario Gila. With personal terms now being finalised, the €10 million Lazio-Dinamo deal would deliver a €2 million return to Barcelona via the retained sell-on clause. The funds align with Barcelona’s summer strategy of generating pure profit from ex-players. Under La Liga’s newly certified 1:1 financial rules, every euro from such clauses can be reinvested immediately into first-team recruitment. The club has already generated income from similar deals involving Sergino Dest, Pablo Torre, and Ez Abde. The impending transfer underscores the financial leverage Barcelona maintain over former academy products, even after they leave the club.
