Kumbulla eyes Roma revival as Gasperini looms over future

🇮🇹

Marash Kumbulla will rejoin AS Roma in Trigoria after a loan spell at Mallorca, with his contract running until 2028 and having logged only 594 minutes this season, including a single yellow card, despite a series of injuries throughout the campaign.

The 2000‑born defender’s loan at Mallorca proved disappointing, as injuries limited his involvement. He featured for just 594 minutes and received one yellow card during the spell.

Kumbulla expressed great respect for AS Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini, noting he only has positive things to say about him. He added, “I knew him before, and I think his career speaks for itself.”

He reiterated his wish to work under Gasperini, stating, “Obviously, I’d love to work with him; I’ve said that before.” Kumbulla cautioned that any decision will involve both parties, saying, “it’s not just up to me or him.”

Roma retain Kumbulla’s registration until 2028, and he has two years left on his current contract with the Giallorossi. The defender hopes to remain at the Roman club beyond the loan period.

Kumbulla aims to feature in the Champions League with AS Roma, reflecting his desire to compete at the highest European level. He believes a successful season could secure his place in the squad.

He will join the pre‑season training camp scheduled for 13 July in Trigoria, saying, “I’ll try to arrive at the training camp ready, play my cards right, and then we’ll all decide together what the best solution is for everyone.” The camp will be a decisive period for assessing his role at the club.
