Chilavert's racist remark sparks fury
French Football Association chief Philippe Diallo has condemned former Paraguay goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert for making racist comments about the French national team. Chilavert, 60, said Paraguay would face a 'squad from Africa' in their World Cup tie against France.
The comments were made in response to a screenshot of former French forward Christophe Dugarry's statement that Paraguay would get hammered by Les Bleus. Chilavert said, 'Christophe, you're right. In 1998 we faced the French and now PY will face a squad from Africa.'
Diallo responded to Chilavert's comments, stating, 'I condemn in the strongest possible terms the racist remarks made by José Luis Chilavert against the French national team, which undermine the values of respect, fraternity, and diversity in our football.'
France scrape past Paraguay, exposing cracks before Morocco clash
The incident occurred before France's 1-0 win over Paraguay in the World Cup last 16 clash. The match was marked by controversy, with Paraguay's rough tactics leading to several fouls on French players. France will now face Morocco in the next round, while the fallout from Chilavert's comments continues. The former goalkeeper's remarks have been widely criticized, with many calling for action to be taken against him.
