Bundesliga's TSG Hoffenheim makes serious bid for NEC star Kodai Sano
TSG 1890 Hoffenheim have tabled a serious bid for 25‑year‑old NEC midfielder Kodai Sano, reports said on Wednesday evening, as the Bundesliga club aims to outpace rivals such as PSV in the race for the Dutch talent. The move could see the Japanese playmaker leave after three seasons with the third‑placed Eredivisie side.
During a Wednesday afternoon training duel between NEC and amateur side De Treffers, Sano remained on the bench. NEC initially cited illness as the reason for his absence, but later reports suggested a different motive.
Multiple sources inside NEC confirmed that Hoffenheim had presented a serious offer for the Japanese midfielder. Because both clubs could reach an agreement quickly, NEC kept Sano on the sidelines in the training match.
Ajax entered the fray with a €10 million proposal, coupled with the loan rights to Ahmetcan Kaplan. NEC rejected the Dutch side's terms.
PSV Eindhoven also emerged as a potential destination for Sano, according to circulating rumors. The Bundesliga club's bid now competes with the Dutch champion's interest.
Sano has amassed 98 appearances for NEC, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists. A move to the Bundesliga would end his three‑year spell with the third‑placed Eredivisie outfit.
The pursuit underscores the growing appeal of Eredivisie talent among German clubs. NEC will need to replace a key creative force if the transfer materialises.
