Bristol Rovers chase midfield firepower with Jack Aitchison signing

🇬🇧

Bristol Rovers have moved to plug a midfield goal deficit by securing 26‑year‑old Jack Aitchison on a two‑year contract, after his exit from fellow League Two side Exeter City. The signing follows the Rovers’ need for added attacking impetus as they reshape their squad.

Aitchison featured in 51 league matches for Exeter City during the 2025‑26 campaign. His consistent presence underscored his role in the side’s efforts throughout the season.

The midfielder spent three seasons with Exeter, being ever‑present as the club suffered relegation from League One. His experience at that level adds a seasoned perspective to the Rovers’ midfield.

Aitchison first made headlines at Celtic, becoming the club’s youngest player and goalscorer when he scored with his first touch in a 7‑0 victory over Motherwell in May 2016. He achieved this at just 16 years and 71 days old.

Despite the early promise, he never cemented a place at Celtic and subsequently spent three years with Barnsley. He returned to the English game by joining Exeter in 2023.

Manager Steve Evans praised the signing, stating, “Jack is a gifted lad, a Glasgow boy.” He added, “Our supporters will take to this kid and if we can add goals to his game, he’s a top, top Championship player.”

The next challenge for Aitchison will be to increase his goal output to meet Evans’ expectations. Bristol Rovers fans will be watching closely as he adapts to the club’s ambitions.
