Bosz rejects Oranje speculation but keeps door ajar

PSV head coach Peter Bosz has dismissed repeated media suggestions linking him to the vacant Netherlands men’s national team job. Speaking after PSV’s 1-1 pre-season friendly against Royal Antwerp in Eindhoven, Bosz said: “That’s pointless. I’m happy to be back at PSV and that’s where I’m focusing.” When pressed on whether he had been approached by the KNVB, Bosz grew irritated. “I have no interest in further questions about Oranje. If you ask me those, I’ll walk away,” he said. His comments came as the KNVB searches for a successor to Ronald Koeman, who resigned after the disappointing World Cup campaign. The federation has not publicly commented on candidates or a desired profile for the new head coach. However, the next international fixture looms large: on 24 September, Oranje will host Germany in a Nations League match at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Bosz extended his expiring PSV contract earlier this year, securing a third straight league title. His name surfaced previously as a potential candidate, but the KNVB waited for Koeman and did not approach him at the time. In May, Bosz told Studio Voetbal that the KNVB had missed its chance. “If they had come to me then, I would certainly have given it serious thought. I’ve never done it before; it would be very special to be the national coach.” Arne Slot and Sarina Wiegman have also been mentioned, but neither is commenting publicly. Slot’s agent said her client would be “honoured one day to coach Oranje,” adding: “Right now we have nothing to say on the matter.” Wiegman, England’s women’s team manager, has likewise ruled out taking the Dutch men’s job. Ten Hag, currently technical director at FC Twente, has not responded to questions about Oranje. He has previously stated he is committed to Twente for the next two years, while also acknowledging the appeal of a national-team role. “Circumstances, conditions, the squad—it could be attractive. I would certainly aspire to it,” he said in an earlier interview.
