United target Swansea’s 19‑year‑old keeper as compensation fees rise

🇬🇧

19‑year‑old Wales Under‑21 goalkeeper Kit Margetson is poised to leave Championship side Swansea City for Premier League giants Manchester United, with his current contract due to expire this summer. United are expected to pay a compensation fee as the Welshman has not yet broken into Swansea’s first team.

Margetson earned his Wales Under‑21 debut in March, according to the FAW, after progressing through the Welsh youth ranks. He spent the 2025‑26 season on loan at Connah's Quay Nomads, where he featured regularly in senior matches.

He joined Swansea City at under‑15 level, following a path shaped by his father, former head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, who departed the club at the end of last season. Martyn’s departure coincided with Kit’s development within the academy.

Despite not yet appearing for Swansea’s first team, the 19‑year‑old has attracted interest from top clubs. Swansea confirmed in May that they were in talks with him about a new contract.

With the contract set to run out this summer, the club now anticipates his exit, acknowledging that Manchester United will likely need to meet a compensation clause to secure his services. The move comes as the British transfer market remains active, highlighted by Stoke City’s recent £10 million acquisition of Swansea’s Galbraith, plus the addition of Ingelsson.
