Real Madrid chase €12.5m from Arribas deal as Benfica negotiate

🇬🇧

Real Madrid, having spent roughly €90m on new signings this summer and already recouped €80m from player sales, are now targeting a €12.5m windfall from the pending transfer of former midfielder Sergio Arribas to Portuguese side Benfica, provided the Portuguese club meets Almeria’s €25m asking price.

In the summer of 2023, Real Madrid transferred Sergio Arribas to Almeria for €6m. Almeria were relegated from La Liga in the 2023‑24 season.

Arribas has revived his form in the Segunda División, scoring 26 goals last season. Despite his tally, Almeria fell to Malaga in the play‑off final.

Benfica are reportedly prepared to offer €20m for the 24‑year‑old midfielder. Real Madrid retain a 50 % sell‑on clause on Arribas, which would net them €10m if the deal proceeds.

Almeria have set an asking price of €25m, meaning a €12.5m share would flow to the Bernabeu if Benfica matches it. Sources consider his departure from Almeria this summer as almost certain.

Earlier this window, Real Madrid secured €20m from receiving half of Liverpool’s €40m fee for Victor Munoz. They also expect at least €12.5m from Alvaro Rodriguez’s move to AFC Bournemouth.

Combined with €80m already generated from player sales, the club’s reliance on sell‑on clauses highlights a broader market trend of clubs offsetting heavy spending through secondary market income.
