Rangers cash in on Butland as Hull splashes £3 million deal

🇬🇧

Jack Butland is set to leave Rangers for Hull City in a reported £3 million deal that also sees Ivor Pandur move the opposite way, 4 Lads Had A Dream. The move, discussed on BBC Radio Humberside, gives the veteran goalkeeper a fresh start with a year left on his contract.

Clifford praised Butland as a leader and a goalkeeper of stature, noting that he consistently starts each season strongly for Rangers. He added that while form can dip later, when Butland is on his game he offers confident, able shot‑stopping.

According to Clifford, Butland has handled the expectations of Rangers well, delivering solid performances despite a few high‑profile errors. Overall, he has been a very good goalkeeper for the club.

Rangers fans have reacted positively, agreeing that it may be time for Butland to seek a fresh challenge. Clifford said the club wants its leadership group refreshed after seasons that fell short of their ambitions.

The reported £3 million fee surprised Clifford, who had expected only about £1 million given Butland’s age and remaining contract year. He called the sum very good business, especially when considering the investment involved in acquiring Ivor Pandur.

Hull City gain a goalkeeper who brings leadership and proven early‑season form, while Rangers secure a sizable fee to reinvest and refresh their squad. Both clubs view the swap as a mutually beneficial deal.
