Guardiola exits as City fall to Villa in final Etihad clash
Manchester City’s decade-long dominance concluded with Pep Guardiola’s final match in charge, a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
City took the lead through Erling Haaland in the 67th minute, but Villa equalized through Ollie Watkins in the 87th before Mousa Tamari scored the winner in stoppage time.
Guardiola, in his ninth season at City, oversaw a 159-game unbeaten run at home in the Premier League, including 55 consecutive victories between 2020 and 2022.
The defeat leaves City third in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, with six games remaining.
Guardiola will be succeeded by Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season after agreeing a deal to join Real Madrid.
City host West Ham United next in their final home game of the campaign.
