Aston Villa's midfield revamp hinges on Norwegian talent for the WSL campaign
Aston Villa have completed the signing of 20‑year‑old Norwegian midfielder Kamilla Melgård, announced in an official club press release earlier today, after she spent two seasons with Madrid CFF in Spain’s Liga F, where she featured in all 30 league games, scoring four goals and providing seven assists.
During the 2023‑24 season she appeared in every one of Madrid CFF’s 30 league matches, starting 28 of them. She contributed four goals and seven assists from midfield. Her consistent playing time underscored her importance to the Spanish side.
Before moving to Spain, Melgård developed at Lyn in Norway, progressing through the club’s youth and reserve teams. She later broke into Lyn’s first team, accumulating more than 60 senior appearances. The experience in the Toppserien provided a solid foundation for her overseas move.
Aston Villa’s midfield boost: signing Norwegian talent Kamilla Melgård
Internationally, Melgård has represented Norway at several youth levels, most recently the Under‑23 side. She has yet to make her senior debut for the national team. Her progression through the age groups reflects the Norwegian federation’s confidence in her potential. After confirming the transfer, Melgård said, “I’m really excited. It feels like a really good opportunity, and I feel like there are really good facilities here to grow, focus on football and continue developing as a player.” The midfielder expressed optimism about the resources available at Villa’s training base. The signing marks Aston Villa’s second addition in this summer’s transfer window. The club has also secured Rangers forward Mia McAulay to strengthen the attacking line.
