Strategic minority stake talks draw Jeff Bezos to Liverpool

Jeff Bezos, one of the world’s richest individuals, has been approached to join an investment group that intends to purchase a minority share in Liverpool, a development confirmed by Fenway Sports Group to Sky News. The club is being valued at more than €5.2 billion for the prospective strategic minority stake.

According to Sky News, the consortium pursuing the stake is led by former Queens Park Rangers co‑owner Amit Bhatia. Bezos’s involvement would give the group a high‑profile backer as it seeks a foothold in the Premier League club.

A spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group confirmed that discussions are ongoing and that the group is evaluating the proposal. The statement came directly from FSG, the current owners of Liverpool.

Fenway Sports Group originally acquired Liverpool in 2010 for roughly €350 million. In 2023 the group sold a small share of the club, raising about €190 million, which was used to reduce debt and fund further investments.

Sky News added that any new investment from Bhatia’s consortium would be structured in a similar manner to the 2023 sale, balancing capital injection with debt management.

Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has an estimated net worth of around €220 billion although none of those negotiations resulted in a completed deal.
