Manchester United eye £60m Alex Scott as Tottenham chase Fernandes

Manchester United are reportedly focusing on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, valued at around £60m, as currently part of their summer rebuild. The club’s interest comes as Tottenham push for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, whose price tag is reported at about £85m.

Manchester United's summer rebuild may hinge on how quickly they read the market, £85m has altered the landscape for United.

Alex Scott is 22 years old and offers a midfielder comfortable taking the ball under pressure. He can link phases and is still young enough to be moulded into something more complete.

Scott may not be as physically imposing as Fernandes, but his appeal lies in being tidy, intelligent and Premier League tested. United have spent many summers buying promise from afar, only to face brutal adaptation periods.

Bournemouth understandably do not want to sell, with a valuation of around £60m suggested. United, Arsenal and Tottenham have reportedly made initial enquiries, though no formal agreement has been reached.

United would expect Scott to become a long‑term starter at Old Trafford, not merely a squad filler. The £60m price tag requires a level of conviction from the club.

The club sees Scott's profile—energy, control, technique and resale value—as fitting United's midfield rebuilding plan. This offers a cleaner pathway than chasing Fernandes.
