Liverpool's €100m chase: why Diomande is the missing piece

Liverpool have tabled a €100 million offer for 19‑year‑old Ivorian winger Yan Diomande as they search for a replacement after Mohamed Salah’s departure, and the young star has publicly reacted to the bid. The move signals Liverpool’s intent to revamp their wide play for the upcoming season. Last season Liverpool struggled to create chances from the flanks, a problem amplified by Salah’s exit. The club therefore sees a high‑profile winger as a priority investment. Diomande has lit up the Bundesliga this campaign, demonstrating rare ball‑carrying ability on the wing. His performances have positioned him as one of the few players able to match that profile. Liverpool’s €100 million proposal was turned down by RB Leipzig. Leipzig appears reluctant to sell and may be waiting for a Paris Saint‑Germain offer that could raise the price. Diomande expressed frustration with the drawn‑out negotiations and said he is keen to join Liverpool. He indicated that the prolonged talks are hindering his move. Liverpool recalled the difficulty of delayed transfers after Alexander Isak completed his move on the final day of the summer window. That experience underscores the club’s desire to avoid similar delays with Diomande. The English side can either maintain its current bid and hope Leipzig eventually accepts, or increase the financial package to accelerate the deal. A higher offer would test Leipzig’s resolve and potentially speed up negotiations. Leipzig’s resistance remains the main obstacle to finalising the transfer before the window closes. Liverpool must decide whether to raise the bid or accept the stalemate.
