Vitesse shareholders claim dismissal of board, club disputes legality

🇳🇱 18 May 2026

Vitesse is in turmoil after four foreign shareholders reported to the KNVB that they had dismissed the club's executive board and supervisory board. The club says the dismissals are not legally valid.

The shareholders submitted a formal notification to the Royal Dutch Football Association stating they had terminated the board and supervisory bodies. The filing was made without prior public announcement.

Vitesse, a club based in the Dutch province of Gelderland, argues that the shareholders' action does not follow proper legal procedures. The club insists that the move lacks legitimacy under Dutch law.

The club maintains that the board and supervisory board remain in place pending a proper legal assessment. It has not recognized the shareholders' decision as effective.

The dispute adds to the ongoing instability within the organisation, leaving governance uncertain. No immediate changes to club operations have been announced.

The KNVB is expected to review the shareholders' submission and determine the legitimacy of the alleged dismissals. A final ruling could shape the club's future leadership.
