Fifa bans reusable water bottles at World Cup venues

6 June 2026

Fifa announced a ban on reusable water bottles inside World Cup stadiums. The ban follows a last‑minute amendment to the stadium code of conduct.

The previous rule had allowed empty, transparent, reusable plastic bottles. The new code now classifies those bottles as prohibited items.

The prohibition also covers cups, jars and cans. The restriction aims to avoid injury if any of those objects are thrown.

Fans have expressed concerns about heat. Spectators fear limited access to drinking water during matches.

Fifa cited risk of injury to players as a primary reason. The governing body also mentioned safety of attendees as a factor.

The ban will be enforced at all World Cup venues. Organisers will need to provide alternative water solutions for supporters.
