Aaron Ramsey appointed Oxford head coach

🇮🇹

Former Wales captain Aaron Ramsey, 35, has been appointed head coach of Sky Bet League One side Oxford, succeeding Matt Bloomfield after the club’s relegation from the Sky Bet Championship last season. Ramsey brings a playing résumé that includes 86 caps for Wales and spells at Cardiff, Arsenal, Juventus and Rangers.

Ramsey’s coaching résumé includes periods with the Welsh national team and a stint as interim manager for the Bluebirds. His experience on the international stage complements his playing background.

"It’s an honour and privilege to be appointed head coach of Oxford," Ramsey said on the club’s website. He added that discussions with the club revealed ambition and desire for success, giving him great excitement about the opportunity.

Ramsey said he will instill a culture of high standards, professionalism and work ethic among the players. He promised a clear identity built on elite habits, daily improvement and a squad that fights for the badge until the end.

During his playing career, Ramsey lifted three FA Cups with Arsenal. He also won a Serie A title, a Coppa Italia with Juventus, and a Scottish Cup while on loan at Rangers.

Ramsey retired from playing in April, ending a career that spanned clubs across England, Italy and Scotland. He has moved into full‑time management ahead of the 2026‑27 season.
